Cool Places to Go Archives
Mount Leconte:
The lodge at Mt. Leconte is one of the most unique places in the South East to visit. The Lodge is located in the Smokey Mountains at 6593 ft. The lodge can only be reached by strapping on your boots and hitting the trail. No kidding, no roads! Supplies are brought up during the week by way of llamas. Choose one of the 5 trails to get you to the top. The trails range in distance from around 5 miles to 8 miles or so. These trails can be pretty tough and I am known for being a pretty “Bad Dude” on the trails. Well o.k., I am only known that way in my mind and yes there was this one time when a 6 year old girl and her grandfather, passed me on the way up. That girl was hauling the mail son; I wanted her tested for steroids! The pictures I included do not do this place justice. The beds are rough, blankets rougher, and to say you aint at the Hilton is an understatement. Although the lodge is very rustic, the incredible views and the home cooked meals (dinner and breakfast) make up for it. Again, the views and the overall environment at that elevation, make it well worth the hike, long wait for reservations, and the steep cost ($97.00 + tax).
