Cool Places to Go

Send us any reviews on good places to go that we should know
about, anything from camping in the backcountry to the best place to
mtn. bike (says you) in the south east.

Cool places to go of the week:

Fort Clinch

Located in the most North Eastern part of Florida ( Fernandina Beach) that it can be without being in Georgia, Fort Clinch is a great place to go camping. It is across the river from Cumberland Island, Ga. The park is almost all under a canopy of trees snarled by 100’s of years of harsh winds off the coast. The park is situated surrounded by the coast on one side and the other sides by a river. If you’re lucky you can see a sub going to the navel base at Kings Bay while standing on the Forts wall. For a minute, you think “man I could light that sub up with this big cannon”. Then you remember that the sub is a nuclear sub and that might not be too wise! Although, not an island, the way the park is laid you have the feeling that you are indeed on an island. The old fort also gives you the feeling of being back in history and they offer reenactments during the year as well. The park has camping either by the river (where campers gather and watch the sun set) or on the beach. The park hosts a fishing pier that has to be at least 38 miles long. O.k. maybe it is shorter, but you don’t want to walk to the end without some Gatorade and some snacks. There is a 6 mile bike/hike trail that is really good as well. All this and much more, makes you forget your actually downtown Fernandina Beach and just a few minutes from the Dairy Queen and a large Oreo Blizzard. If you’re looking for a base camp to go surfing, kayaking, hiking, etc. or just need a place to relax with the family, I highly recommend Fort Clinch.
